In just a short time, GTECH Strategies has made huge strides in the Pittsburgh area. I now hear people talking about brown spaces, brassica plants, sustainability, and green-collared jobs. Andrew and Chris are dedicated to improving the landscape of Pittsburgh and empowering all of us as Pittsburgh citizens to do more. Pittsburgh is fortunate to have such an innovative nonprofit within the city. GTECH is moving forward on complicated and daunting concepts and reaching major goals for the health of all of us. Thank you GTECH!
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... many Pittsburgh neighborhoods. GTECH is developing brown space to improve the soil, and help with biodiesel production.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the co-founders and all those associated with GTECH truly care about our community. They are all open to ideas, new perspectives, and questions that anyone has. They are refreshing and energizing!
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... informed, kind, funny, creative, passionate, dedicated.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... change the world! Focusing on our environment and leaving a positive social impact would be our culture.
Ways to make it better!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... strategic partnerships. So many people can help GTECH, and want to help.

Project Employ is a program offered to adults through Bethlehem Haven. The two opportunities through Project Employ is, 'a Life Skills program for individuals not yet ready or able to work, and a Professional Development program for individuals whose goal is permanent employment.' The program helps adults find meaningful work in the area they would like to work which is incredibly valuable for our region. Also, the participants find a source of pride in the amazing work they do. The staff is incredibly small for Bethlehem Haven, let alone Project Employ. However, the dedication of the staff is apparent in all that they do.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... a chance encounter with a past participant. She had just been offered a position as an administrative assistant. It has been a long time since I have seen someone so incredibly thrilled about an achievement. She couldn't wait to start, and had so many ideas she wanted to share with her new staff, but she also wanted to learn so much.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The staff and the participants are amazing. Often, we go from meetings to meetings and do not have contact with the very people we are trying to help. By volunteering with Bethlehem Haven's Project Employ, I am reminded of my passion to help my community.
Ways to make it better!
- In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Having employers participate as volunteers. Project Employ now has a site in McKeesport. Employers have been great about hosting the participants of Project Employ as interns, but helping with the mock interviews is also so important, and fulfilling!
